Nova Scotia Artisans + Canadian Kitchenware

At Saffron + Salt we believe the best kitchens are built through great craftsmanship and meaningful connections. While we’re proud to carry world-renowned kitchen brands, we’re equally passionate about supporting the talented artisans, makers, and small businesses that call Nova Scotia and Canada home.

As a locally owned, family-owned kitchenware shop in Halifax, we’re committed to showcasing products with a story. Pieces made by people who care about quality, sustainability and creating something that lasts.

Local Nova Scotia Artisans

Check our store for the small yellow signs. They are profiles for some of our local artisans and makers. They live and work right here in our community and are proud to be making the products that will find a home at your table or in your kitchen, surrounded by friends and family.

Every Brian Holtan cutting board begins with Nova Scotia hardwood that Brian milled himself before transforming it into a functional work of art. His handcrafted cutting boards and wooden scrapers are designed to become the tools you’ll reach for every single day.

Lise Dufour’s pottery blurs the line between functional kitchenware and fine art. Whether displayed on a coffee table or used to serve a favourite meal, each handcrafted piece adds warmth and character to your home.  Her work has been featured in Country Home magazine and we are thrilled to be the exclusive vendor for her pieces here in Halifax.

Catherine Pestl’s ceramic shell dishes celebrate our coastal heritage while serving practical purposes – from jewellery holders to elegant salt cellars and beautiful tabletop accents.

Local artist Warren of Ren Design fills our walls with colourful East Coast inspired artwork that celebrates the beauty of Maritime life. Her greeting cards and magnets also make thoughtful gifts that capture the spirit of Nova Scotia.

Manufactured in Pictou County, Grohmann knives have earned an international reputation for craftsmanship. Whether you’re an experienced chef or a passionate home cook, these Canadian-made knives offer exceptional performance and lasting quality.

Local Chefs

Our cooking workshops are led by local chefs, bakers, and food entrepreneurs who live and work right here in Nova Scotia. Every class helps support another local business while giving our guests an unforgettable hands-on experience.

We also proudly carry cookbooks written by talented Nova Scotia authors, helping you continue your culinary journey long after class ends.

Canadian Companies

Supporting Canadian businesses doesn’t stop at Nova Scotia. Throughout the store you’ll discover thoughtfully selected products made by skilled craftspeople from across Canada. Every item is chosen for its quality, craftsmanship and the story behind it – because we believe knowing who made your kitchen tools makes them even more meaningful.

Our collection includes Meyer Cookware, proudly manufactured on Prince Edward Island. Built for everyday cooking, Meyer combines Canadian craftsmanship with  exceptional performance, making it an excellent choice for home cooks looking to support Canadian-made products without compromising on quality.

We also carry our own Saffron + Salt Hand and Dish Soaps, handcrafted in Ontario by artisan soap maker extraordinaire Clare Raman. Made with all-natural ingredients and beautifully blended essential oils, they’re gentle on your hands, tough on dishes, and add a little luxury to everyday kitchen tasks.

For bread lovers, Michelle of Elle Makes creates beautiful reusable beeswax bread bags in Ontario that help keep sourdough and artisan loaves fresh while reducing single-use plastic in the kitchen.

Our colourful Maison Milan aprons, handcrafted just outside Montreal, are designed to last for years. Made from durable cotton canvas, they combine comfort, function and timeless style—whether you’re preparing a weeknight dinner or hosting friends for a special meal.
