Halifax's New Kitchen Supply Store

Driven by a passion for good food, cooking, and bringing people together, we opened Saffron + Salt to create a welcoming space for everyone who loves being in the kitchen. From gourmet home chefs to beginners learning their way around.

We’re a locally owned, family-owned kitchenware store in Halifax, offering high-quality products at a variety of price points. Whether you’re looking for an everyday kitchen essential, upgrading your cookware, or searching for that perfect gift, our goal is to help you find products that make cooking easier and more enjoyable.

And because we believe the best way to learn about food is to get hands-on, we also offer cooking and baking classes in our studio above the shop.

I Do the Research So You Don’t Have To

As the owner, I put a lot of research and thought into the products we carry. Every item in the store is intentional.

I spend countless hours researching products, comparing recommendations from independent sources like Wirecutter, America’s Test Kitchen, and Serious Eats, and, whenever possible, putting products to the test myself.

From small everyday tools like whisks, spatulas, peelers, and measuring tools to investment pieces like sauté pans, cast-iron skillets, Dutch ovens, and stand mixers, I want to know that the products we sell are reliable, well-designed, and worth your money.

I love finding the highest-rated, most reliable products at great prices.

I do the research so you don’t have to!

My goal isn’t simply to fill the shelves. It’s to curate a collection of kitchenware that I genuinely believe in and to be able to help you choose the right tool for your kitchen.

Cooking, Baking & Learning

If you’re ready to take your skills to the next level, join us for one of our cooking or baking classes in our studio above the shop.

Our classes are taught by local chefs and culinary experts who are just as passionate about food as we are. We keep our groups small and our topics focused, so there’s plenty of opportunity for hands-on learning, questions, and personalized guidance.

From sourdough to sushi, pasta to knife skills, our classes cover a wide range of interests and skill levels.

Whether you’re looking to learn something new, improve your technique, or simply enjoy a fun evening cooking with friends, we hope you’ll find a class that strikes your fancy.

Supporting Local

One of the things we love most about Saffron + Salt is being able to support talented local makers and businesses.

We stock a growing selection of local products, including food and drink artwork by Ren Design, cutting boards and wooden utensils by Brian Holtan, pottery by Catherine Pestl, as well as greeting cards, cookbooks, room sprays, and so much more.

We love discovering unique products made right here in Nova Scotia and the Maritimes, and we’re proud to give them a place on our shelves.

Keeping Your Knives Sharp

A great knife is one of the most important tools in any kitchen. Keeping it sharp makes cooking safer and more enjoyable.

Our partnership with Maritime Sharpening makes it incredibly convenient.

Dull knives can be dropped off at Saffron + Salt every Tuesday and are returned to the shop on Thursday, sharp and ready for your next culinary masterpiece.

Ken is an absolute expert in his field, handling everything from routine sharpening to advanced knife repairs.

More Than a Kitchenware Store

While kitchenware is at the heart of what we do, Saffron + Salt is about much more than products.

We offer bridal registries, kitchenware consultations, team-building events, and private events for small groups. Whether you’re outfitting a new kitchen, looking for the perfect wedding gift, planning an event, or simply need advice choosing between two pans, we’re here to help.

Why Saffron + Salt?

So, why did I call the store Saffron + Salt?

I wanted a name that reflected the kind of space I hoped to create: somewhere welcoming and accessible, where everyone could find high-quality kitchen supplies.

It represents the range of what you’ll find in the store. From something luxurious and special like saffron to an everyday staple like salt.

I grew up in the food industry. My first job was at a major fast-food chain, and from there I worked in numerous roles in restaurants, bars, and the food-service industry.

I also spent many years working in retail, including national sales, merchandising, and marketing roles with large retailers.

Saffron + Salt brings all of those experiences together in one place.

It’s a place where I can combine my love of food, cooking, retail, product research, and most importantly, community.

Our Story

I recently had the pleasure of being interviewed by Mark DeWolf, food critic for The Coast, about what brought me to Halifax and why I ultimately decided to open a local kitchenware store.

If you’d like to learn more about my journey and the story behind Saffron + Salt, read the article here.

And if you’re hungry for more, you can browse our products, check out our upcoming cooking and baking classes, follow us on Instagram and Facebook, or subscribe to our newsletter for first dibs on new classes, products, and events.

Or, better yet, come visit us in store.

We’d love to meet you, talk food, answer your kitchen questions, and help you find the products that will make your life in the kitchen a little easier and a lot more enjoyable.

Welcome to Saffron + Salt. We’re so glad you’re here.
